reroll or ascend?
So I am new and Normally play a Ranger or Necro. I figured that would be cool on here too, Now I'm not into "I must have the most perfect build or I fail". I like to play with things that are fun to me but also have some functionality.
I ended up going R/N I thought the hexes, and life stealing skills, coupled with minions would work well Like it has for me in the past. I gotta be honest, I'm not liking the Necro at all. I have always been under the impression that Minions are what made the Necro, but even at lvl 15 with a large chunk of points in DM They aren't worth it (at least so far with my little knowledge of the game)
Well before I go on and on, Should I stick with it till 20 and decide then whether to ascend and change my 2nd class or should I reroll and maybe change to something like Mo/R or R/Mo. I have been looking into other combos with Ranger so still not sure what I would change to if I rerolled.
Well as always thank You for any info you can provide, and remember I'm new (before you go and tear up my current setup lol)

If your going for pvp, don't run a toucher, they are only good for 1v1, honestly rangers are meant for utility (interrupts, conditions, pressure).

Minions aren't any good on a Ranger primary. You don't have to start over to change your second profession. Once you ascend, you are free to change your secondary as often as you wish. So just go with ranger skills, and unlock the other secondary professions you want to try after you ascend.

Wait till you ascend and can change 2nd profession freely. If you reroll into a R/Mo you may not like that as your 2nd profession. If you ascend, then you can change it as many times as you like.

man u sound exactly like i did almost 3 years ago lol, well rangers in pve usually run barrage, but i mean it gets pretty old & rangers can use almost any weapon as good or better than it was meant to be, scythe rangers are crazy good & fun, daggers are fun, packer(R/P) is really fun lol not alot of dps but has super survivability, only thing you would want r/a for is toucher & no one realy likes them tbh

The ranger and Necro are both pretty good in pve anyway which is my main interest.
If you stick with the ranger you may well find a change in secondary brings more sucess.
The ranger has less energy for spells than a pure spellcaster and of course the necro primary has a skill track that regains energy when anything dies.
That makes a necro/* pretty good either as a minion master or one of the other popular builds, as energy is never a problem for a necro.
The ranger is more an interrupter condition spreader.
Poisoning crippling or just interrupting an enemy caster are their forte.
They have excellent armour esp against elemental damage.
As you may have noticed by now each class has a primary skill track specicic to that class and its worth checking out what advantages that can give you when your deciding on a build.

The info was appreciated Immensely, I think what I'll do at least for now is stick with what I have till I can ascend then finalize my chars class once I get more knowledge. I'll read up on what will suit my playing style the most and work on that.
I kind of just threw these two together using experiences I have had in other games. I should know by now after 10+ years that they change from game to game and you have to build accordingly. I really do appreciate you all taking the time to point me in the right direction.
Thanx again =)

I would say this, take your ranger through the game first, if you don't like it then make another character

I think you might be missing what some folks are trying to express. You don't need to lock yourself into or finalize anything. You can ascend your character and then get quests to change your secondary class(you can get access to all of them) and then change your builds how ever you see fit with what ever skills you aquire. Don't limit yourself to one thing. Part of the fun is mixing it up so you don't get bored.

I realize that,
I would rather setup my char one way. I'm sure there are certain needs for certain times, that's when I'll add what I need within my party.
I don't intend on spending the time I have in the past on MMO's on this game. So I would rather have a setup I like. I do not want to have to start getting multiple weps and armor sets.
I say finalize in regard to a setup that I like to play but will also allow me to advance in the game smoothly.

couple of points for varying your character for differing situations.
As you will by now realise you can alter the balance of skill points when your in a town, this only takes a couple of minutes.
For a Ranger this would be Expertise Beasmastery Marksmanship and Wildeness Survival.
You can set up builds and assign a name to them and load these "builds" when your in a town.
So you can have a couple of builds for different situations.
Its pretty common to have extra weapons that give different effects and even armour pieces or whole sets with various runes added to customise your character.
Anyway think about it for the future meanwhile have fun playing the game.

Thats untrue. In PvP, a ranger can abuse any weapon better that i's primary user.
So far Rangers have sucessfully abused Spears, Scythes, Bows, Hammers, Axes, Daggers. They havent abused Swords but Swords suck.

Basically this.
Check out the wiki and search things like "templates". You can buy or craft max armor quite cheap and same goes for weapons (just depends on how much vaniety you want to involve in your look) and the wiki will direct you to where you want to go for it. You can use this to review missions or explorable areas for suggestions on how you should mod your builds/weapons/team etc.
You can check out the PvXwiki for build ideas as well.
Just trying to get the idea of "other MMO's" out of the picture here. A good part of this game is tweaking your toon (and I guess heros?) and the design of the game make it relatively easy to do so.
